VIRGINIA TECH ATHLETICS COMPLIANCE SERVICES
RULES-EDUCATION PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Coaches and Administrators

Required rules-education seminars are conducted each semester for which attendance is expected for all coaching staff members. These seminars are open to the entire department.

Sport-specific recruiting meetings are conducted four times a year for coaching staffs in those sports with the most restrictive year-round NCAA recruiting calendars (football, men's and women's basketball), and twice per year for all other coaching staffs.

A series of optional rules-ed presentations/discussions covering key topics in athletics compliance are conducted each academic year. These are designed for coaches and administrators, but open to the entire department.

Monthly compliance updates are provided to head coaches during the academic year as part of the regular head coaches meetings.

Memos are produced and distributed throughout the year by the Compliance Office to explain, clarify or introduce NCAA legislation, legislative interpretations and amendments.

E-mail reminders and bulletins are used to communicate important information concerning breaking issues and timely topics. These are sent by the Compliance Office to all affected athletics department staff members.

A detailed calendar/newsletter is produced monthly by the Compliance Office for each sport restricted by year-round NCAA recruiting calendars (football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse).

Each month, mini-posters containing a two-month summary of current and upcoming recruiting periods for all sports are produced. These are distributed to administrators and posted in key locations throughout the department.

Sport-specific meetings with each coaching staff are held in the fall to discuss legislative amendments. New legislation is explained to the entire staff via memo and in-person meetings following adoption in the spring.

A 90-minute compliance orientation regarding NCAA and ACC regulations, Virginia Tech policies and procedures, and expectations regarding rules compliance, is given to all incoming coaches.
