Camp Employment

Camp employees must be paid based on guidelines established by the camp director prior to the start of camp. These guidelines must be in writing, and will be reviewed as part of the Camp Approval Form checklist.

Basic information regarding days worked and duties performed must be recorded for each employee. This information must be retained as part of the camp records for a minimum of three years.
Camp Background Check Policy

Coach/Camp Director agrees to assume full responsibility for any minor children under his/her supervision while on the Virginia Tech premises. Further, Coach/Camp Director agrees that he/she will ensure that all persons associated with the Camp or interacting with minor children will have obtained criminal background checks required by law prior to any association with the Camp or interaction with children attending the Camp. Coach/Camp Director further agrees that he/she will not permit anyone who has been convicted of a sexual offense to serve in an employment or volunteer capacity for the camp, or to serve in positions responsible for the direct or indirect supervision of minor children, or which may allow for unsupervised access to, or interaction with, minor children while they are attending the camp. Coach/Camp Director shall present evidence of compliance with the above requirements upon request of the Director of Athletics or his designee.

  1. Coach/Camp Director agrees that he/she will contract with a legitimate, certified, Criminal Background Check Agency to provide timely background checks on any employee of his/her camp. The Coach/Camp Director must annually provide the Virginia Tech Athletics Compliance Office with evidence of a contract by means of an authorized copy prior to the start of Camp (30 days before first day of camp).
  2. Coach/Camp Director agrees that he/she will ensure that all persons associated with the Camp or interacting with minor children will have obtained criminal background checks required by law prior to any association with the Camp or interaction with children attending the Camp. This includes student-athletes, volunteers, scorekeepers, officials, etc. Any staff/volunteers who are SOLEY responsible for registration or office work will not be required to obtain a background check. Background checks must be done annually for all camp staff who are not Virginia Tech employees.
  3. No staff member or volunteer can work a camp until they are cleared through the Camp’s contracted Criminal Background Check agency.
  4. All background checks will be available to the Director of Athletics if requested.
